1. Decide your budget- Decide how much budget you want to allocate for the photography which will be depend on your wedding requirement. Some of the brides want to invest more on the photography by which they can get some good photographer and inclusive photos. If you are looking only for the wedding photos then you can allocate less budget. So think exactly what do you want .
2. Research- You need to know what type of photography you want such as traditional (posed photography) or candid (natural) photography, black & white ,color or mix. Do the research of different photographers and their work. Collect some ideas and have some vision to describe to the photographer what exactly you are looking for. Get some references from your friends and relatives or planners.
3.Contact the photographers- Discuss your needs and budget with the photographer.Contact your all shortlisted photographer and ask them about their availability for your event. Discuss with the photographers that who will be coming to shoot on the event. Sometimes studios have more than one photographers. Get the contact details of that photographer. Ask all questions about album, prints, timings, dress code etc. Also give them the idea of total number of photos of guests and ceremony.
4. Negotiate- Negotiate with the photographer by doing all research. Negotiate with their photography package such as how many copies of album photographer will give you , how many portraits and dvds. Make sure that both parties you and photographer have signed the contract which mention the things which you both have discussed and agreed.
